Getting Started

SDSU has a wide variety of online programs and courses for students who need the flexibility of anytime, anywhere education. Follow these steps to get started.

1. Explore online learning.


SDSU offers several online degrees at the bachelors and masters level, as well as many certificate programs and minor areas of study. If you are considering applying for an online program, this survey will help you determine your level of readiness for online learning. Your answers will also help you learn what you need to do to succeed at online learning, and post-survey feedback will provide you with information on what you can expect from an online course.

6. Register for classes.


Go to WebAdvisor. Select "What's My User ID" and "Reset My Password." Follow the prompts to obtain your User ID and create your password.

7. Prepare for class.


Start preparing for class by confirming your student ID. Your student ID can be found on your SDSU Admission letter or by calling Records and Registration at (605) 688-6195.

Go to MyState and select "Activate Your Jacks Email." Follow the instructions to activate your account. You will need your student ID for the temporary password.

Before classes start you will want to obtain any required textbooks for the class(es). You can order your books online through the University Bookstore.

8. Pay your bill.


SDePay is the official means of delivering tuition bills to all SDSU students. All enrolled students will have an eBill posted to their SDePay account. Check your statement and make payments through WebAdvisor. Select Students and SDePay/View Account.

9. Access your courses.


SDSU utilizes Desire2Learn (D2L) to deliver its online courses. Students enrolled in courses through SDSU have access to a number of video tutorials and guides that provide an overview of the D2L system. Login to D2L using your WebAdvisor user ID and password. Locate Self Registration and select "SDSU Student D2L 101." Take some time to view these tutorials prior to the first day of class. Knowing how to navigate and utilize the tools within D2L will get your online learning experience started on the right foot.
