In the spring of 2000, the South Dakota Board of Regents allowed for the creation of a special Student Technology Fellows (STF) program for the state's public higher education institutions. Since its Fall 2000 inaugural semester, SDSU has awarded an average of seventy-three fellowship positions to undergraduate students per academic year.
Program Overview The STF program is an unique opportunity for undergraduate students to develop professional-level skills in the design and the implementation of information technology for instructional purposes. STFs assist in all areas related to the use, instruction, and support of technology and perform in a wide variety of capacities for faculty and departments.
Projects STFs are assigned to colleges and/or departments, which then may ask them to:
- Help faculty incorporate technology into their courses
- Respond to questions and resolve issues related to software and hardware support
- Assist with web page development and applications
- Facilitate in troubleshooting technology-enhanced classrooms
- Monitor the technology in distance-education classrooms
Requirements Students from all majors are encouraged to apply, but only those with the most demonstrated abilities will be accepted. In order to be eligible for consideration, as well as to ensure continued participation, STFs must meet the following criteria:
- Be an undergraduate student and a resident of South Dakota
- Maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA
- Complete 32 credit hours per academic year
- Work 165 hours per semester (an average of 10-12 hours per week), including participation in required trainings and meetings
