Campus Internet Access Information
Services Provided 1. Initial installation for supported network cards. A ResNet Technician will install the network card and drivers and the internet software for the supported operating systems. Installation of the SDSU provided anti-virus software program.
2. For connections using supported network cards, internet-related hardware and software problem determination and resolution will be performed on a best-effort basis. Troubleshooting for unsupported network cards or for unsupported operating systems will be limited to verifying that the Internet connection functions properly with supported systems.
Computer Requirements
Supported Operating Systems The only supported operating systems are Windows 2000 Workstation (desktops or laptops), Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Apple Macintosh System 10 or better.
NO OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS ARE SUPPORTED. Computers with non-supported operating systems may be connected to the SDSU network but support will be limited to ensuring proper operation of the Internet link up to the wall faceplate. No other support services will be provided.
Anti-Virus Every computer must be running anti-virus software provided by SDSU. You will be prompted to download Symantec antivirus when you first connect to the network. You may also get a copy of this software from your ResNet Technician or the Support Desk.
Network Cables Students must provide their own CAT-5 staright-through network cable to connect their computer to the network port in their dorm room. These can also be obtained from the Support Desk at Admin 102 or the front desk of the residence hall.
Ethernet Cards (Network Interface Card, or NIC) Students must have an Ethernet network card for their computer. Network cards are standard in most new computers. 100-megabit cards are required. In Brookings, Ethernet cards may be purchased from the Campus Bookstore or Computer One at 102 Main Ave. S. or Nortek Computers at 224 Main Ave, or Wal-Mart.
Terms of Service
Port Usage Policy Only one computer may be attached to any network connection at a time. Any device that allows another computer to connect to that network connection (hub, switch, wireless access points, or another computer) is strictly prohibited (with the exception of a docking station). In other words, no server of any kind is permitted. Any violation of the SERVER policy will result in a loss of Internet connectivity for THE ENTIRE RESIDENCE HALL until the situation has been corrected, and verified by UNSS staff.
Anti-Virus Policy Every machine must be running anti-virus software provided by SDSU. You must leave this program installed and running while you are connected to the SDSU network.
Illegal Network Activities Any hacking of the network, Denial of Service attacks, or virus/worm dissemination or other illegal activities will not be tolerated. All computers involved with activities of this nature will be disconnected from the network until the incident is resolved. Violation of this policy and/or misuse of the internet connection will result in immediate disconnection, University disciplinary procedures, and possible criminal prosecution.
Copyright Notice Federal Law prohibits the duplication or distribution of copyrighted material. Students should not distribute unauthorized copyrighted material through the SDSU network.
Acceptable Use Policy All students using SDSU's network are bound to the policies outlined in the Acceptable Use Policy.
Refund Policy No refunds will be given for any reason.
Limited Liability SDSU assumes NO responsibility for costs associated with the loss or damage to a student's personal computer and its associated peripheral equipment.
Configuration Requirements Each computer must be properly configured to meet SDSU and Board of Regents security requirements. Students will be required to have anti-virus software and all operating system patches before accessing the Internet. Students will use Cisco's Clean Access Agent client to assist them with meeting these requirements, prior to gaining internet access.
Attempts to circumvent or defeart any mechanism put in place by SDSU to manage the network will be subject to immediate termination of network services and possible pursuit of disciplinary action.

| How To Register All student's living in the residence halls at SDSU are entitled to use ResNet services. Students must apply for ResNet service when they move into their dorm room.
To apply, plug the computer into the network port in the room and open a web browswer. An application page will appear if the student has not already applied for Internet use..
