Photographer
Psychology, B.A.

South Dakota State University graduate Paul Horsted is one of South Dakota’s most-published photographers with several books and many national publication credits. Horsted’s credits include publications such as LIFE, National Geographic and USA Today, as well as books on South Dakota, Badlands National Park, Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park.

As part of the team taking part in the Custer Expedition Project, Horsted successfully re-photographed 47 of the original photo locations taken by General Custer’s 1874 expedition. The book Exploring With Custer: The 1874 Black Hills Expedition contains photographs from 1874 with modern photographs taken at the same locations. The book is also a precise guide to following the expedition's route through the Black Hills, with day-by-day journal entries from officers, enlisted men and newspaper correspondents.
