Zeke is a 2007 graduate with majors in Communication Studies & Theatre (Electronic Media Production emphasis) and History. His SDSU activities included President of the SDSU TV Club, Vice President of the SDSU Film Society, and Producer of the 2007 SDSU Student Film Festival.
What is your career goal? I hope to write feature films. My goal is to get to the point where I can operate my own production company on a large scale.
What do you see yourself doing in five years? I hope to move to Los Angeles after graduating this year. Five years from now I hope that Im still in L.A. working with films that are seen on a wide release basis. If not in L.A., I hope to be working in the media field somewhere on a level that people back here in South Dakota can keep tabs on.
Tell us a little about the SDSU Film Festival. The festival was started in 2004. Originally it was obvious that students created the videos--they were very primitive. Over the last three years, though, the videos have progressively improved. This years festival was the best weve had. I hope that the festival is something that grows in status, but above all, I hope it continues to be an outlet for students to show what theyre capable of.
What's the most interesting homework project you've been assigned? A documentary I made about Harold Thune, Senator John Thunes dad, for my History 480 class. Harold was a pilot in WWII and the first Division I basketball player to come out of South Dakota. The documentary opened the door for me in a lot of ways. It gave me some good early experience with film and editing I may not have had otherwise.
What has been your best college experience? Putting together the show The SkEpTyX [a series of comedy short films]. Its been a lot of fun to be able to use a crew made up entirely of students (ranging from PR, photog, camera, directing, and talent) and put something together that can be seen by the entire world on YouTube.
What's one thing you never thought you'd do before you came to SDSU? I never thought Id have the opportunities in film that Ive had before graduating from college. This year has been very eventful. In October two other media production students and I won a national short film contest through Carson Daly and NBC on itsyourshowtv.com.
I never thought Id be involved with the group of people that I am, all of us willing to make a film at the drop of a hat. I didn't think we would be shooting at all hours of the day, editing through many sleepless nights, and showcasing student projects for the state to enjoy. When I came to SDSU, I didn't think it would provide that kind of atmosphere.
