What is the application deadline at State? The SDSU Admissions Office processes applications on a rolling basis, so there is not an application deadline at State. However, students are encouraged to apply well in advance (six to ten months) of the semester they wish to attend, in order to arrange housing, apply for financial assistance, and to attend new student orientation/early registration programs.
What are the university's admission requirements? For freshmen or transfer students who are interested in admission to a bachelor's degree program, go to Undergraduate Student Admissions on the web, which contains our Undergraduate Admission Requirements. International Students click here to view the admission requirements for students who are non-US citizens. For students interested in admission to a master's degree program, visit the SDSU Graduate School to request graduate student admission requirements.
How much will it cost for me to attend SDSU?
How does a student qualify as a South Dakota resident in order to pay in-state tuition rates?
How do I qualify for the Minnesota Reciprocity tuition rate?
How do I apply for financial aid at State? A student must submit their Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) [External Hyperlink] in order to receive any federal financial aid. This includes federal grants, federal student loans, federal parent loans, and campus work-study. We also offer a substantial number of scholarships [External Hyperlink] each year.
How do I register for classes as a new student? When can I do it? The SDSU Office of New Student Orientation has all of that information, including the dates of the registration/orientation events for the upcoming semester, the schedule of events for those days and contact information for their office on the New Student Orientation [External Hyperlink] section of the SDSU website.
Are all students required to live on campus? All unmarried students are required to live on campus, unless they have completed four semesters of full-time enrollment at an institution of post high school education or are more than two years beyond graduation from high school.
When will I get my housing application? Our Office of Residential Life begins sending out Residential Life booklets in February to all new students admitted for the fall semester who are required to live on campus. These booklets contain the application for campus housing and the housing contract, as well as a great deal of other important information about living on campus at SDSU. After this initial mailing, housing booklets are being sent to students on a weekly basis as they are admitted to the university.
Are freshman allowed to have a car on campus? Students can bring their cars to campus. However, they must purchase a parking permit. The two types of permits available are General or Reserved Permits.
How will I know if my credits from another college or university will transfer to SDSU? Undergraduate transfer credits are evaluated by the appropriate college dean based on SDSU college and major requirements. Prospective students can request a Transfer Pre-Evaluation Form from the admissions office, which they can complete and mail in to the university, in order to have their college courses evaluated prior to their transfer to State. You can also download a printable copy of this form online on the Transfer Admission Requirements page within the SDSU website. If you would like a Transfer Pre-Evaluation Form and other SDSU information to be mailed to you, go to Request More Information.
Does SDSU take Advanced Placement (AP) credit? Yes, but students must take the AP exam for the appropriate course in order to qualify for college credit. More information is available here.
When can I visit State & how do I set up a visit? The SDSU Office of Admissions invites prospective students to visit the university, and provides a number of opportunities for them to do so. Students can schedule individual campus visits Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information on how to schedule an individual visit, or for information on our other campus visit opportunities, go to Visiting Campus on our university website. High school students are also invited to participate in our TGIF visit programs throughout the school year.
