College is a big step for not only the student, but for the parent who is
helping support the
student.

To receive federal financial aid the student and the parent have to take a few easy steps.  Step one is Applying for Financial Aid.

After completing and submitting the FAFSA, your student will receive award information from the SDSU Financial Aid Office.  In the envelope there are forms and information telling the student what he or she is awarded from federal financial aid.  Students who have an Estimated Family Contribution Number or (EFC) of 4041 or less will receive eligibility for a Pell Grant.  Your student will also receive eligibility for the Stafford Loan program.

After reviewing the Cost Estimate  and subtracting your student's available financial aid, you may find there is additional need for other financial aid.  If this is the case, there are other programs that the student and the parent can use of to bridge the gap.

The Parent Plus Loan

The Alternative Non-Federal Loan

The FAFSA uses information from the prior year when the student starts school, but things may have changed since filing the FAFSA.  You or your spouse may have lost a job or there may be some large continuing medical bills, for example.   If this is the case, please fill out a Change of Income Form or a Special Circumstance Form
