New borrowers or students changing lenders can use a lender of your choice or one from our Federal Stafford Loan Lender List. This list is not exhaustive and students should feel free to use any lender that offers Federal Stafford Loans. SDSU has not and will not recommend any lender it is the students responsibility to choose.

Step 2: If you are a first time borrower OR would like to change lenders, you must complete a Master Promissory Note [External Hyperlink] (MPN).  This may be done online, or by completing a paper application in the financial aid office.  If you PREVIOUSLY had a Stafford Loan, you do NOT need to complete another MPN.

Step 3: First time Federal Stafford Loan borrowers must also complete entrance loan counseling [External Hyperlink] before the loan can be disbursed.  Entrance loan counseling can also be completed online, or a paper form can be obtained in the financial aid office.
