Federal Grants

Federal grants are amounts of money that do not have to be repaid. Grants are awarded based on financial need and only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree.

Federal Pell Grants are need-based and available to students seeking their first undergraduate degree. Eligibility for the grant is determined by the results from the FAFSA. The maximum Pell Grant for the 2008-2009 academic year is $4,710; the minimum award is $400. Less than full time students may receive Pell Grants, but awards must be pro-rated based upon enrollment status as of the final add/drop date of the semester.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), based on availability of funds, are awarded each year in combination with the Federal Pell Grants. Students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant will be considered for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. Awards range from $100 to $450 a year.
