Pride of the Dakotas makes second trip to Rose Parade
The Pride of the Dakotas marching band spent the week after Christmas in California preparing to march in the five-mile long New Years Day Rose Parade.
The 333-member group also performed before nearly 15,000 people gathered for Bandfest at Pasadena City College. On another day, visitors to the amusement park at the Santa Monica Pier were treated to a 25-minute concert. SDSU alumni gathered earlier at an eatery on the Pier and delighted in the bands performance that ended with Ring the Bells and The Yellow and Blue.
President and Marcia Chicoine watched performances at Bandfest, Santa Monica and the Rose Parade. Over 200 supporters joined the group for various activities in 62 to 70-degree southern California weather.
A log of trip activities and photos is available in a blog accessed from the SDSU home page, www3.sdstate.edu , by clicking on the Pride of the Dakotas hat logo. As of 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7, the blog had received over 37,000 views!
The Pride of the Dakotas marching band played Sweet Land of Liberty as they marched along Colorado Boulevard in the Pasadena Rose Parade. In between play and to the crowds delight, the group chanted SDSU … Were from South Dakota … SDSU … not San Diego!

State vehicle drivers asked to conserve fuel
In order to conserve fuel, University Fleet & Travel asks state employees driving state-onwed vehicles to do the following:
• Utilize State Fueling Site more because of the lower bulk fuel cost.
• Do not waste fuel idling vehicles to warm up or cool down before using.
• Slow down driving speeds, thus reducing fuel use.
For questions, contact Judy Carlson, Motor Pool, 688-5518.
Library adds access to Nursing Legacy Archive
Many current nursing journals are available online, but adding access to the Nursing Legacy Archive makes older nursing journals also available online.
Remote access is important for distance students and this resource will make available more than 800,000 articles. The journal archive provides immediate access to the back files of more than 200 journals that have chronicled important breakthroughs in research and techniques in major clinical and medical specialties, including nursing, infectious disease, surgery, and cardiology.
Coverage of 200 journals spans Volume 1, Issue 1 through the final issue of 1999. It complements the LWW Total Access Collection to give both historical and current LWW journal resources.
For more information, contact the H.M. Briggs Library, 688-5107.
