Campus Crime Alerts

South Dakota State University has a system to notify community members of crimes or other serious incidents that may pose a threat to the community. This system complies with the Timely Warning Notice requirement of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

To aid in the prevention of crime or other serious incidents, the SDSU University Police Department (UPD), in collaboration with other departments on campus, issues Campus Crime Alerts to notify community members about selected crimes in and around our community. Community members who know of a crime or other serious incident should report that incident as soon as possible to the UPD (688-5117 or x5117 on campus) so that a Campus Crime Alert can be issued, if warranted.

The UPD distributes the Campus Crime Alerts through a number of different methods. Once the College determines that a Campus Crime Alert will be issued, the UPD prepares the Alert and posts it throughout campus and on the UPD web site.

UPD also works in conjunction with the Residential Life to post Alert flyers on bulletin boards located throughout campus residence halls. Police Department members also post the flyers on bulletin boards located in other administrative and academic buildings on campus. Finally, the department posts the Alerts in the Campus Police Station so visitors to the station have an opportunity to view the notices. Campus Crime Alerts can be found at the UPD main office in the Alvilda Myre Sorenson Center at the corner of Medary Avenue & Harvey Dunn.
