SDSU Police Department

Welcome to the South Dakota State University Police web site. I, Tim Heaton-Chief of SDSU Police, and my staff proudly serve this community. We are located in the Sorenson Center at the corner of Harvey Dunn and Medary Avenue, and is open 24 hours a day, everyday. Stop by and speak with us. We value your input and concern.

SDSU police officers and our staff work to promote a safe, friendly community on this campus, but we are only one part. Our success as a department depends on you, your cooperation, and responsibility that you acknowledge as a part of the SDSU community. Play our part and help us make SDSU your home.

Our department is responsible for and has agency jurisdiction for law enforcement matters occurring on property that is under control of the South Dakota Board of Regents and on the main campus of SDSU. SDSU Police has primary jurisdictional responsibility for property within the main campus core boundaries. Mutual aid agreements with the City and County of Brookings allow officers of SDSU Police to give appropriate attention to traffic control and enforcement on the streets that run through or are adjacent with SDSU properties.

Sincerely, Tim Heaton
