Designed by Sioux Falls architect Joseph J. Schwarz, Wenona Hall's name signifies the firstborn maiden in an Indian family. This building housed the women on campus beginning in 1909. Almost its twin, the adjacent Wecota Hall(1915) shares many of the Neo-Classical elements that make these structures significant examples of early 20th century academic architecture. In both, the unique center gable Intersecting the hip roof over the central entrance crowns a massively scaled, pedimented portico. This focal point is framed by four bays of columns and pilasters with Corinthian capitals.

The building entrances provide the architectural contrast. Wenona Hall's single-door entrance is flanked by two small Doric columns and sidelights, while the overhead Palladian window is enhanced by a projecting curved iron balcony. Wecota Hall's double-door entrance is highlighted by an elliptical fanlight. The overhead bay features a single window tucked behind a projecting iron balcony.
