Services offered in the Printing Laboratory, located in Yeager Hall:
Prepress
The prepress or prep area has migrated to a new technology called Computer-to-Plate. The new equipment makes use of computer images to expose images directly to metal plates which are then processed and sent directly to the presses.
The new technology has greatly reduced the amount of labor required to get a job done.
The new prepress area is located in the front center of the Print Lab. The staff in that area is Doug Odegaard and Greg Moir.
Offset Printing
The offset printing area of the Print Lab is the main way in which printing is done. That equipment is located along the west side of the production area. The equipment includes a 1.color Heidelberg QM-46, a 2-color Heidelberg GTO-52 and the newset addition is a 6-color Akiyama 22"x28" press plus aqueous coater and dryer.
The press area of the lab is staffed by Ken Sweaney, Bryan Jones and Scott Westphal.
Copy Center
The copy center is run by Roger Olson and the primary copier is a Xerox 6134 digital copier. New additions in the center include a Docucolor 250 Digital Color copier and a Copycenter C75 black and white copier.
The color copier can reproduce color copies on paper sizes up to 12" x 18".
The 6135 copier can copy on paper up to 11" x 17" and convert copied pages into saddle stapled booklets from 51/2"x81/2" up to 81/2"x11".
Electronic files can be sent directly to the copier for reproduction. All orders need to have a work order form attached to the job.
Large Format Printing
Large format printing is done at the Printing Lab on a 36" Hewlett Packard DesignJet 2500CP printer. Length is variable.
In addition there is a 40" laminator.
Most common software is acceptable. Persons needing a poster, display or banner are asked to contact the staff at the Printing Lab 2-3 days before creating your poster to help eliminate problems.
The area for this work is in the Printing Lab in Yeager Hall and is run by Dawn Folkens.
