Darrell Sawyer, Ed.D., is Director of the Career Center at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T) and has served in that capacity since March 1999. He is currently an adjunct instructor in Career Counseling for the SDSUWestRiverGraduateCenter.His previous experience includes serving as Public Information Manager for SDSM&T’s University and Public Relations Office (two years) and as State Director/West River Director for former U.S. Senator Larry Pressler (eighteen years).
He recently completed a doctorate degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota, with his dissertation research focused on the career development benefits of co-ops and internships for college graduates. He previously earned M.A. and B.A. degrees in history from the University of South Dakota, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.He currently serves as president of the South Dakota Career Planning and Placement Association and previously served on the Board of Directors for the South Dakota College Personnel Association. His professional memberships include National Career Development Association, American College Personnel Association, NASPA, South Dakota Career Planning and Placement Association, South Dakota College Personnel Association, Cooperative Education and Internship Association, American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) – Cooperative Education Division, and the National Association of Colleges and Employers. He also is active in several campus and community organizations, including Rapid City Rotary Club, Storybook Island Board of Directors, and United Way Day of Caring.
