Nursing Accelerated

DESCRIPTION OF DEGREE

South Dakota State University started the Accelerated Nursing Option in August 2002 in Sioux Falls.  The program allows qualified students who already have a bachelor’s degree in another area to earn their Bachelors of Science in Nursing within 12 months.  They must meet admission qualifications and have completed all prerequisite courses at the time of program admission.

Five semesters of nursing courses are ‘accelerated’ into five rigorous 8-12 week terms.  Classroom and clinical hours are doubled to achieve the 62 nursing credits within 12 months.  The student will need to be prepared to meet the demands of classroom instruction, on-line courses, learning laboratory and clinical experiences.  The program expectations for clinical experience and classroom content equal the undergraduate standard option.

The program is designed to begin in August with graduation the following August.  The graduate is then prepared to write the NCLEX-RN examination for licensure as an RN and entry-level practice in a variety of settings.
