What is a Science Fair?

A Science and Engineering Fair enables students to get out of the classroom and into the real world of science, which is research. Doing a scientific research project can be merely taking a survey, or doing research on a subject in the library, or working in a laboratory with a professor on a realistic, scientific problem. Some examples that students have done in the past are: measure growth rates of plants, study intensities of light, or research the good and bad points of a new drug. The research project you choose is only limited to what you can dream up.

Choosing a subject for a research project is the hardest part of the whole research process. You must choose a topic you like and then limit that topic to an applicable project. The judges would like to see projects in which the idea is 100% yours. They want to see insightful, innovative ideas of how you completed your research. You may use somone else's idea; but modify it; make it better; make it your own.
Problems?
Try to think up an idea of your own. If you can not come up with a good idea, ask your science teacher. Or, you could write a letter to one of our SDSU professors. They would be happy to help you. Or, check out the list of Project Suggestions.

Good Luck in choosing an idea!!
