These are some of the awards and prizes which will be given away at the 2008 Eastern South Dakota Science and Engineering Fair (ESDSEF) at SDSU.

Discovery Young Scientst Challenge (revamped) Chance to win a $50,000 Savings Bond, trips, prizes Open to any 5th-8th grade student. Submit a video (1-2 min) to www.discoveryeducation.com/youngscientist between Mar 1 and Jun 15, 2008. Science Fair winners go straight to quarterfinals if video meets rules.

U.S. Metric Association++ certificate For exhibits using quantitative measurement and which best uses the SI metric system for measurement; senior division only
U.S. Public Health Service++ Certificate signed by the USPHS Surgeon General Projects which creatively illustrate and expand upon following statements: (a) Regular physical activity is important for maintaining good health; (b) A healthy diet is key to maintaining a healthy weight and having a long healthy life; (c) Tobacco use is hazardous to your health; (d) Injury and illness prevention saves lives; and (e) Alcohol remains the most heavily abused substance by American's youth.
U.S. Navy & Marine Corps++ (4)$50 gift certificates, medals and certificates for senior div; (5) medals and certificates for junior div Senior Division; demonstrate abilities in the sciences; convey dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm for continuing interests in the sciences or engineering
Water Environment Federation++ certificate + $25 cash from SD chapter + chance to progress to state/Stockholm competition (chance to win an all expense paid trip to Sweden); (2) certificates and chance to progress to state/Stockholm competition Projects dealing with water quality, water resource mgmt, water protection, water treatment or waste water treatment
Women Geoscientists Association++ Award Certificate Female student whose project exemplifies high standards of innovativeness and scientific excellence in the geosciences
Yale Science & Engineering++ Certificate, pewter medallion Best exhibit involving computers, engineering, physics, or chemistry; 11th grade only
