2.  Where is SDSU's University Police Department located?

The University Police Department is located in the
Sorenson Center at the corner of Harvey Dunn and Medary Avenue.

3.  What are the office hours for the University Police Department?

The University Police Department is open 24 hours a day, every day.

4.  What responsibilities does the University Police Department have?

The University Police Department is responsible for and has agency jurisdiction for law enforcement matters occurring on property that is under control of the South Dakota Board of Regents and on the main campus of SDSU with primary jurisdictional responsibility for property within the main campus core boundaries. Mutual aid agreements with the City and County of Brookings allow SDSU Police officers to give appropriate attention to traffic control and enforcement on the streets that run through or are adjacent with SDSU properties.

5.  What should I know about parking on campus?

Parking on the SDSU campus is a privilege, not a right. Our primary interest is to foster convenience and safety for all people working and visiting the campus and to facilitate the efficient operation of the University.
Please acquaint yourself with the current regulations governing campus parking.  It's the best way to avoid a ticket or loss of privileges.

Remember, there are no free parking areas on campus! All parking lots are constructed, maintained, operated, and administered through parking fees, which are paid by all patrons. Parking Regulations for South Dakota State University are published on an annual basis. The parking and traffic committee are the approving authority for these regulations.

For information on buying a parking permit, click on

6.  How can I avoid getting a parking ticket? And how do I make sure my car doesn't get towed?

We have some helpful hints on how to avoid both of these situations.  Click on
/Administration/UniversityPoliceDepartment/TrafficParkingRegulations/

And remember, if you do get a ticket, save yourself a late fee and pay it within 96 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) as instructed on the ticket.
