Disability Services

The purpose of the Office of Disability Services (ODS) is to coordinate services with students and employees of SDSU with disabilities. The goal of ODS is to ensure equal access to educational opportunities, programs, activities and employment by promoting a physically and programmatically accessible environment.

FAQs

1.  I know that "reasonable accommodations" will be made regarding my disability but how is that defined?

"Reasonable accommodations" include:

  • Alternative format text and other educational materials
  • Sign Language Interpreters
  • Notetakers
  • Testing in a distraction free environment
  • Readers for exams
  • Extended time for testing
  • Job accommodations
  • Modifications to work environment
2.  I'm concerned that I'm going to spend a lot of time explaining my situation to people. Who exactly will know that I've come to your office for assistance?

Regarding confidentiality, The Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act state that disability related information is to be treated with strict confidentiality.

To be eligible for an accommodation, the student should arrange an appointment with the Coordinator of Disability Services and present verification of disability.
