Atmospheric, Environmental, and Water Resources Ph.D. Program

The Atmospheric, Environmental, and Water Resources (AEWR) Ph.D. program encompasses a variety of fields including Geography, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Sociology, and Horticulture, Forestry, Landscape & Parks. The intent of the program is to prepare professionals in understanding the physical processes taking place in the atmosphere, at and below the land surface, and the interaction between these. As a part of this, the student may focus on a particular component (the Atmosphere, the Environment, or Water Resources) or a combination of these components. Through the coursework students take, they will be exposed to the complex issues associated with the identification, development, use, and protection of precious air, water and natural resources. This coursework may come from a variety of departments including but not limited to the departments of Geography, Plant Science, Biology & Microbiology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Sociology, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering. The program is a joint effort with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T) in Rapid City, South Dakota. Coursework associated with the program can be taken from either campus.

***Note: this program is being phased out and replaced with the Ph.D. in Geospatial Science & Engineering program.  Effective Jan. 1, 2005: No new students will be enrolled in the AEWR program.
