General Education Requirements

(See current SDSU catalog for detailed explanation and list of courses.)

General Education requirements must be completed prior to the 3rd professional year to receive the B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree, but are not required for students who already have a baccalaureate degree.

Of the credits listed below, as many as 6 credits can be readily placed in the fall and spring semesters of the professional phase of the pharmacy program; others can be taken during summers if necessary.

Social Sciences electives, 3 credits plus economics (see above); also referred to as System General Education Requirements (SGRs) Goal #3. See specific listing of courses in the SDSU catalog (includes selected courses in anthropology, geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology).

Humanities and Arts electives, 6 credits; also referred to as SGR Goal #4. See specific listing of courses in the SDSU catalog (includes selected courses in art history, literature, music, foreign languages, philosophy, religion, and art).

Land and Natural Resources, 3 credits; also referred to as Institutional Graduation Requirements (IGRs) Goal #1. See specific listing of courses in the SDSU catalog (includes selected courses in land & natural resource stewardship, ecology, environmental science, and Biol 101/101L).

Personal Wellness, 3 credits; also referred to as IGR Goal #2. See specific listing of courses in the SDSU catalog (students who transfer to SDSU can satisfy the personal wellness requirement by transferring 2 credits of PE activity courses).

Social/Cultural courses, 3 credits; also referred to as IGR Goal #3. See specific listing of courses in the SDSU catalog (includes many courses also listed as Humanities & Arts, and as Social Science electives).

General Electives, 3 credits. Can be from any discipline, including credits in excess of the required SGR & IGR credits. Since Biol 101 satisfies IGR #1, students with Biol 101 need 6 cr of General Electives.
