Suggestions and Complaint Policy

The College monitors its programs and policies on a regular basis. One component of this regular monitoring is to obtain suggestions and complaints from students. Each student’s advisor and instructors provide an informal means for expressing suggestions or complaints. Also, the Pharmacy Student Council members bring to the dean suggestions for improvement. A more formal complaint policy is also available for all students, whether they are in pre-pharmacy or the professional program. The complaint policy for students specifies how a student can initiate a complaint at the College, or for complaints related to the ACPE standards, through the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), the national organization that accredits the College of Pharmacy.

Complaint Policy for Students

1. Students who have general complaints about any issue may voice their concerns informally to their advisor, the assistant dean, the dean of the College, or through the Pharmacy Student Council.

2. Formal complaints regarding grade appeals must follow the policies outlined in section 2:02 of the SDSU Student Policy Manual (available in the College office).

3. The College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Complaints from students, faculty, or the public against the College of Pharmacy regarding policies or procedures as related to ACPE standards, including tuition and fee policies, can be directed to ACPE. These complaints shall be placed in writing in detail by the complainant and submitted to the ACPE office. The complaint shall be submitted to the SDSU College of Pharmacy for a response. Requests for confidentiality shall be respected by ACPE to the extent any such information is not necessary for the resolution of the complaint. The ACPE complaint procedure is available at: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/students/complaints.aspClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy

4. Complaints submitted to the College in writing by students, faculty, or the general public will be considered by the College. A response will be sent to the complainant and a copy of the complaint and response will be retained on file in the Pharmacy office for review by ACPE.

5. Dishonesty and other unprofessional conduct is adjudicated according to the College Professional Conduct Policy as outlined elsewhere in this Student Handbook. Any faculty or student may bring a complaint in writing to the Conduct Committee regarding unprofessional conduct of a pharmacy student. Requests for confidentiality shall be respected to the extent any such information is not necessary for the resolution of the complaint.

6. Besides academic policies, the SDSU Student Policy Manual outlines the policies and procedures that must be followed regarding many other issues related to behavior of students on campus. The policy outlines a code of conduct expected of students and the complaint and adjudication procedures to help ensure the campus environment is safe and orderly for students to live, study, work, and relax. The Student Policy Manual is available in the College office or through the SDSU Student Affairs Office, Administration Building, room 318, or call 688-4493.
