Professional Program

The professional curriculum incorporates a solid foundation of pharmaceutical science courses as well as a comprehensive sequence of therapeutics and professional practice courses. The application of drug knowledge and basic science to resolve problems of drug distribution and patient care is emphasized throughout the curriculum.  Some courses require visits to practice sites located off-campus or in nearby communities.  The third professional year is offered only in Sioux Falls, which provides close proximity to clinical resources.

During the final year, beginning with the summer sessions, students have an opportunity to apply knowledge to pharmacy practice situations in a series of 4-week advanced practice experience in a variety of patient care settings which include the patient care area of hospitals, nursing homes, community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, Indian Health Service facilities and clinic pharmacies.  Students utilize practice settings at many locations in South Dakota and around the U.S., depending upon their preference.

The curriculum for the professional program is available as a PDF file. You will need Adobe Acrobat ReaderClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy to open and read the file.
