Experiential Education
The SDSU College of Pharmacy's Experiential Education Program provides students with the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom setting to real-life situations. Students complete Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) during the first three years of the professional program and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) during the fourth year of the professional program.

Preceptor Information
What is a Preceptor?
Pharmacist preceptors teach students practice skills necessary to provide quality pharmacy
care. In addition to serving as a teacher, pharmacist preceptors are mentors that promote
personal and professional growth in student pharmacists. If you are interested in being a
pharmacist preceptor for the SDSU College of Pharmacy, please contact Mr. Bernie Hendricks
at Bernie.Hendricks@sdstate.edu.
Preceptor Education
As our experiential education requirements continue to expand, we are constantly trying to recruit new preceptors for our students. As a result, we have developed a new preceptor education module that looks to answer some of the questions you might have about being a preceptor for the SDSU College of Pharmacy. If you complete the evaluation and questions found at the end, you might be eligible for 1.0 hours of South Dakota C.E.

ASHP offers a preceptor training program that is especially helpful to new preceptors setting up a new clinical experience. This program does include examples of evaluations and assignments from other colleges, but please refer to our IPPE and APPE manuals for the evaluations and assignments required for all SDSU College of Pharmacy experiences.
