INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS
Internships are programs that provide an educational experience for nursing students. Several internship programs are taking applications for the summer. Information about the different programs can be found online or through Nursing Student Services (SNF 131).

SOUTH DAKOTA
Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, Sioux Falls, SD
The Professional Development Program (PDP)Click to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy is a 10-week summer program designed for the student nurse who is within two semesters of graduation. Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD
The Clinical Enrichment Program (CEP)Click to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy is designed to facilitate the student nurse’s application of the nursing process to clinical practice within a learning environment. Student nurses who have completed their junior year of a four-year baccalaureate degree program are eligible to apply. Contact Avera Sacred Heart Human Resources for more information: 605-668-8331. Applications accepted starting September 1. Application deadline: November 30.

Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD
Avera St. Luke's Summer Intern ProgramClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy is a clinical enrichment program designed to allow educational and clinical experience for senior nursing students. This nine-week program was developed for the student who has completed the third year of a baccalaureate nursing program and is two semesters or fewer away from graduation. For an application, contact Avera St. Luke’s Human Resource Department at (605) 622-5258. Application deadline: February 1 of each year.

Department of Veterans Affairs, Sioux Falls and the Black Hills, SD has been funded for the VALOR (Veterans Affairs Learning Opportunity Residency) Program. This residency program is available to junior nursing students. Rapid City Regional Hospital, Rapid City, SD offers a 10-12 week clinical experience that allows the student nurse to further develop the art of nursing practice and promotes additional interaction with health care professionals. The Student Nurse Extern Program typically begins the first week of June. Sanford Health System, Sioux Falls, SD
The Sanford Summer of Excellence programClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy provides the nursing extern an opportunity to gain experience and skill within actual patient care situations in partnership with an RN preceptor, who will serve as your personal clinical coach. Students who are enrolled and within one year of graduating from an accredited nursing program are eligible to apply for the 10-week program. Application available online. St. Michael's Hospital and Nursing Home, Tyndall, SD
St. Michael's Hospital and Nursing Home Student Nurse Intern ProgramClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy gives nursing students the opportunity to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse preceptor. MINNESOTA

Camp Kamaji for Girls, Northern MN
A residential summer camp for girls located in Northern Minnesota. Each summer, 160 girls (ages 7-15) and 80+ staff members come together to enjoy the magic of camping.  Qualifications include at least one of the following: RN, GN, LPN, current 3rd or 4th year Nursing Student, EMT, Paramedic or PA. Immanuel St. Joseph's, Mayo Health System, Mankato, MN offers a summer nursing internship program for fourth year BSN students to participate in summer learning and work experience that provides a connection between education and real life practice in the hospital setting. The Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
The Summer III Employment ExperienceClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy offers a learning experience during which nursing students participate in direct and indirect patient care. The ten-week Summer III program is offered annually and begins in June. Application available online. Application deadline: January 15.

Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar, MN.
The Summer Nursing Intern ProgramClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy is an opportunity for nursing students (BSN, BAN), between their junior and senior years, to participate in a learning and work experience to provide the connection between education and real life practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, interns further their understanding of the practice of professional nursing. Applications available by request (see website). MISSOURI
BJC HealthCare and the College of Nursing at the University of Missouri-St. Louis offers a paid, ten-week, Summer Nurse Externship ProgramClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy at one of the following BJC HealthCare Hospitals: Barnes-Jewish, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters, St. Louis Children’s and Christian Hospital. This summer externship program is open to nursing students from any ADN/BSN school in the country that meets the admissions criteria. Information and application available online.

MONTANA
Billings Clinic, Billings, MT

NEBRASKA
Regional West Medical Center, Scottsbluff, NE
Regional West Medical Center offers nursing students the opportunity to experience the "real life" environment of nursing through a Summer Nurse InternshipClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy. The ten-week program takes place from June through August at Regional West Medical Center and other community hospitals in the panhandle of western Nebraska. NEW YORK
Camp Ramapo in Rhinebeck, NY offers RN's, LPN's, EMT's, and students a unique opportunity to work with troubled children in a dynamic, involving, and caring environment. Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX

Parkland Health & Hospital System, Dallas, TX is offering a Critical Care and Trauma Nurse InternshipClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy conducted annually at Parkland Health & Hospital System. It was established in 1974, and is the most established program in the country. It offers rotations through five specialized ICU's and the Emergency Department, and an in-depth, comprehensive classroom component as well. Enrolled students can earn six hours of credits towards the Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington by completing the internship requirements. The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX
The purpose of the Summer Professional Student Nurse Extern (PSNE) ProgramClick to view SDSU's Hyperlink Policy is to interest, challenge and provide professional nursing students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of oncology patient care at the nation’s foremost comprehensive cancer center. WISCONSIN

The Student Nurse Internship provides opportunities, including passing medications, for direct patient care experience in various clinical areas. Qualifications: Must be in the process of completing the junior year of a BSN program, including completion of 2 semesters or 3 quarters of clinical nursing experience.
