Nursing students are assigned two advisors during their semesters at South Dakota State University. The students are assigned a Pre-Nursing Advisor while they are taking classes in the first three semesters prior to admission into the Nursing Major.

After admission into the Nursing Major, the second advisor is assigned to nursing students. This advisor is a faculty member and remains the primary Nursing Advisor throughout the five semesters in the Nursing Major.
