My formal nursing education began with a BA from Augustana College (1979) and continued with a Master of Science degree from the University of Michigan (1984) and a PhD from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (2006). The focus of my dissertation research was bereavement-related stress, coping, and well-being in older women during the time of the first anniversary of the death of the spouse. Future research will include replication with a male sample.
I teach communication theory, communication lab, and community clinical in the undergraduate program, an online research methods course for graduate nursing students, and I serve as the Semester 2 student advisor for the West River Department. Previous nursing experience includes medical-surgical, oncology, home health, and parish nursing. Professional affiliations include Gerontologic Society of America, Midwest Nursing Research Society, Sigma Theta Tau Phi and Zeta Zeta Chapters, American Nurses Association, and South Dakota Nursing Association.
