Recruitment, retention, and advising/mentoring of
Native Americans pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing at SDSU is my primary responsibility.  My efforts are made possible by a scholarship program named “Wokunze” which is funded by the Indian Health Service.  Serving as “unci” (grandmother) to the Native American students comes naturally to me because I am a Native American RN with many years of professional and lived experience.

As a HeartMath Healthcare Professional Trainer, I offer students and faculty an evidence-based method of stress management widely used to reduce anxiety and improve overall performance.  The heart is the primary organ of strength and survival, so learning to recognize and use its power is healthy and helpful.

Transcultural nursing is a post-graduate specialty that I am pursuing at the University of Northern Colorado/Greeley.  I will be conducting a study of Lakota women on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
