I completed my Doctorate of Education in 2005 from The University of South Dakota. The focus of my research was on exploring active ways of learning for nursing students. I was particularly interested in looking at how faculty members could utilize new technologies such as moderate to high-fidelity simulation to assist in teaching nursing students clinical skills. I developed a survey which measured faculty comfort levels in utilizing this type of technology with undergraduate nursing students as a teaching methodology.

As a result of my research I chair our department’s Simulation Task Force Committee and am an active member of The International Nursing Association of Clinical and Laboratory Simulation User’s group and also volunteer and assist with the Minnesota Simulation Health Education Professionals group.

Currently, I serve as a faculty member in the College of Nursing and work as an educator and clinician in the undergraduate and graduate department. My clinical focus lies in working with nursing skills that lend themselves to the utilization of Sim Man™ and public health, as I am also a licensed public health nurse.

I have been a clinical instructor in adult medical-surgical areas as well, and have past experience in active practice in school health , neurology, psychology, critical care, home health, and gerontology nursing . Other memberships and affiliations aside from those already listed include Sigma Theta Tau, Midwest Nursing Research Society, Kappa Delta Pi, The South Dakota Nurses Association, and The National Education Association.
