My Focus of Teaching is Ethics, Health Promotion/Disease Prevention, Professional Perspectives, Nursing Education and Curriculum Development, Assessment and Evaluation.

My responsibilities have included serving as a CCNE Accreditation Program Evaluator, Board of Directors for SD March of Dimes and Lutheran Social Services Member Advisory Board, and ANA Center for Ethics and Human Rights.  I have also done grant writing and have spearheaded study tours to Manchester England and Tanzania Africa.  I have developed and taught courses at the MS, PhD and DNP levels in nursing education, health promotion, bioethics and philosophical and theoretical foundations of advanced practice.  Having been director of the SDSU Assessment and Evaluation Office, I have expertise in program evaluation, student outcome assessment and accreditation preparation.

My research focuses on stressors and coping strategies of adults in major life transitions.  Earlier work assessed power/load/margin in RN Upward Mobility students.  I have studied elders who recently lost life partners to determine their coping strategies in adjusting to widowhood.  Current research assesses major stressors and coping strategies of second-degree students enrolled in SDSU’s accelerated nursing program.  I also studied supply, demand, and forecasting of the nursing workforce.  These concepts are representative of my research:  stress, life transitions, hardiness, and coping strategies.
