I completed my PhD in Nursing from Loyola University Chicago in 1996.  The topic of my dissertation research was “Considering Tomorrow”.  The participants in my considering tomorrow research were women who were homeless in Chicago. I have published my dissertation and several short stories concerning the quality of life issues surrounding being homeless in America.

I am interested in the meaning of lived experiences of health and this is the focus on my ongoing qualitative research.  I am Contributing Editor to Nursing Science Quarterly and contribute to the Teaching-Learning column in the journal.

I am currently Professor and Graduate Department Head, Project Director of the PhD program, and am actively involved in research. Two of my published research studies are cited below. My focus of teaching is theory development in nursing, nursing theory-guided practice, philosophical basis for nursing inquiry, qualitative research in nursing, community nursing models and leadership & professional perspectives. Memberships include the American Academy of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses Association, and the International Consortium of Parse Scholars.
