Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)


Visiting Student Fact Sheet


·       The Visiting Student Program allows selected students an opportunity to take course work at FIT without the necessity of a formal transfer.

·       The Visiting Student works on the one-year AAS Degree only.

·      Majors available: Fashion Merchandising Management is typically taken by SDSU students.  Apparel Design is available with a formal portfolio review.

·       Students must be full time and registered at SDSU with a 3.0 GPA and maintain a 2.5 GPA during the semester preceding FIT attendance.

·       Students must have completed a minimum of 60 credits prior to starting the Visiting Student Program.

·       Space availability may be limited and applications should be filed early.  January 1 for a fall admission, October 1 for a spring admission.

·       You must meet with the SDSU liaison prior to filing your application.

·       You can access FIT information via the web: www.fitnyc.suny.edu.

·       SDSU must approve of your application prior to contacting FIT.

·       The SDSU liaison will read your essay and sign your visiting response form.

·       You will be charged the out-of-state tuition rate at FIT.

·       Dormitory space is first come, first served and is not guaranteed.

·       Financial aid is arranged through SDSU.

·       You must not graduate from SDSU prior to attending FIT.

·       Your FIT degree will be processed after you have graduated from SDSU.

·       You must register for GS 200 for zero credit at SDSU while you are attending FIT.

·       Students must take the program as listed in the FIT catalog. No course substitutions will be allowed.
