Goals and objectives of the Interior Design Program

The overarching goal of the Interior Design Program is to prepare graduates for practice in the interior design profession and to service students and clients through teaching, research and service activities. This goal is divided into sub-goals and objectives as follows:

Goal 1: Students: Broad-based education

Objective 1:  Enrich students’ personal and professional lives by providing a broad education, travel studies, international travel opportunities, service learning experiences, opportunities for various minors, and collaboration among various disciplines. All meet the (LFLG) objectives.

Objective 2:  Develop and increase creativity through concept development.

Objective 3:  Provide various learning environments that use appropriate technologies.

Objective 4:  Provide service-learning opportunities for students that educate the public.

Goal 2: Faculty: Scholarship and teaching

Objective 1:  Contribute and disseminate new knowledge to interior design field through research and creative activities. Bring this knowledge into classrooms by engaging students in scholarship.

Objective 2:  Engage in discussion with practicing professionals to evaluate curriculum and address emerging marketplace trends.

Goal 3: Faculty: Service

Objective 1:  Educate the community regarding the relevance of interior design through presentations and support information on current issues at state, nation, and international level.

Objective 2: Maintain active membership in appropriate organization, i.e. ASID, IDEC, AIA, etc.

Objective 3: Work on committees within the department, college, and university.

Goal 4: Program: Accreditation and Collaboration

Objective 1: Receive and maintain accreditation. Stay current on various design issues, increase curriculum standards, improve and raise the standards in the community, and establish interior design as a valued profession.

Objective 2:  Increase collaboration for scholarship and teaching among other disciplines.
