Research
Dr. Hegland’s research agenda is focused on appearance and identity, as she explores the ways in which gender is constructed within a specific cultural context.  Examples of scholarship include studies on cross-dressing, the relationship between rape and dress, the ritual of the high school prom in American culture, aesthetic elements of dress, the application of material culture analysis, and the significance of the corset.
