Aerospace Career and Education (ACE) academies were introduced to colleges and universities by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 1989. Colleges highlighted higher aviation education programs along with institutions working with high school students. The partners are long standing sponsors and make this unique experience possible with generosity and forward-thinking scholarships and services to ACE camps.
Hosted every year since 1992, South Dakota State University (SDSU) through the Space Grant Consortium continues to support the ACE Camp. NASA funding and support from numerous other sponsors provides an experience for high school students who want to find out first hand about aerospace, aviation, and related careers. Actual flying time, hot air ballooning, and tours of scientific facilities include discussions with professionals and experts in the diverse fields.
Since its inception, students from South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Iowa, and the surrounding areas have attended ACE Camp. Students participating in ACE Camp are given a chance to learn about aviation and aerospace careers and meet new friends with similar interests. Additionally, ACE Camp gives students entering grades 9 - 12 and inside look at possible careers and the education needed to pursue them.
The 4-day, 3-night camp is scheduled for Sunday through Wednesday, July 12-15, 2009. Hosted at South Dakota State Univeraity in a safe, informative environment. Lodging, transportation, and meals for each student are included in the registration and tuition fees, scholarships are available from our sponsors upon request.
Young women, minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
