American Indian Studies Minor South Dakota State University
A minor in American Indian studies can be earned by completing an intercollege program of 20 hours academic credit, consisting of 10 credits from required courses and 10 credits from elective courses.
Required courses for the minor:
Anth 421 Indians of North America, or Hist 368 History of the American Indians - 3 cr. Engl 351 American Indian Literature of the Past - 3 cr. Lak 101 Introductory Lakota I - 4 cr.
Elective courses for the minor:
Anth 199 Introduction to American Indian Studies - 3 cr. Anth 310 Cultural Anthropology - 3 cr. Anth 410 North American Ethnology - 3 cr. Anth 421 Indians of North America - 3 cr. Engl 256 Literature of the American West - 3 cr. Engl 352 American Indian Literature of the Present - 3 cr. Geog 219 Geography of South Dakota - 3 cr. Geog 520 Geography of the American Indians - 3 cr. Hist 362 History of the American West - 3 cr. Hist 368 History of the American Indians - 3 cr. Lak 102 Introductory Lakota II - 4 cr. Lak 201 Intermediate Lakota I - 3 cr. Lak 202 Intermediate Lakota II - 3 cr. Phil 100 Introduction to Philosophy - 4 cr. Pols 310 Tribal Government and Politics - 3 cr. Rel 238 Native American Religions - 3 cr. Soc 350 Ethnic and Racial Groups - 3 cr.
Other courses are added as they are approved by the American Indian Studies Committee.
