Political Science Students
|
Our department is proud of our majors, who excel in both academics and extracurricular activities. We have placed students in many outstanding graduate programs and law schools, including the University of Wisconsin at Madison, University of Texas at Austin, University of Minnesota at Twin Cities, University of Iowa, University of South Dakota, University of Nebraska, University of Oklahoma, Drake University, De Paul University, Hamline University, University of Colorado, Creighton University, and the University of the Pacific. We also have a strong record of placing our graduates in private and public employment.
Extracurricular Activities Our students demonstrate good citizenship by participating in a wide range of extracurricular activities. Many of our majors have been elected to represent their colleagues in SDSU's student government. Several political science majors have been Student Association President and have held the powerful position of SA Finance Chair. The current and immediate past Executive Directors of the Federation of Student Associations of South Dakota are SDSU political science majors. Our students are involved in many election campaigns for local or statewide offices. Some majors provide leadership for community projects, including protecting rural values and curbing domestic abuse. We encourage our students to participate in off-campus internships. Many of our majors have interned at the South Dakota State Legislature in Pierre and with the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C.
All political science majors are encouraged to join SDSU's Political Science Club . The club is open to any major and meets every Thursday during the school year at 6:00 p.m. in the Jackrabbit Room of the Student Union. At each meeting, club members debate a topic of current issue. Some recent debates include video lottery, military readiness, and school vouchers. Moreover, members participate in many school and community events. Recently, the club won an award for academic achievement from the Board of Regents.
