Dr. Brawand came to SDSU in 1998 and is the Music Director and Conductor of the SDSU-Civic Symphony. He teaches orchestral string lessons, String Pedagogy, Music Literature, and Music Appreciation. His degrees are in violin performance, awarded by the University of North Texas and the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned the degree Doctor of Musical Arts.

A well-rounded musician, Dr. Brawand has recorded numerous solo, chamber music, and orchestral works as either conductor or violinist. Among his awards for orchestral conducting are grants from the Nebraska Arts Council and the William Tye Foundation. A communicator at heart, Dr. Brawand teaches with a sense of mission, tending his students' interests and interpreting musical works for his audience. He enjoys taking walks with his family, running, and participating in sports.
