James Coull
James Coull, Associate Director of Bands since 1985, received his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Teacher Education from SDSU. He directs the Concert Band, the Basketball Pep Band and assists with the "Pride of the Dakotas" Marching Band. In addition, he teaches fretted instruments and music theory.
An active and prolific arranger, Mr. Coull has had over 500 arrangements performed by marching, concert and jazz bands, orchestras, choirs and various chamber ensembles throughout the Midwest. He has also authored a text for beginning guitar instruction, and a music theory text. His spare time is devoted to outdoor activities with his family and participating in Civil War reenactments throughout the country.
