Alan Taylor Alan Taylor
Dr. Alan W. Taylor, Professor of Music and Assistant Director of Bands at South Dakota State University, is a native of Melbourne, Australia. He received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education and Masters Degree in trumpet performance from the University of Melbourne. In the U.S., Taylor has a Masters Degree in Music Education and a Doctor of Music Degree from the Indiana University School of Music. After teaching for seven years in Melbourne and one year at a special high school for music in Adelaide, Australia, he taught at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and Arkansas College.

Prior to coming to SDSU in the fall of 2002, Taylor was Director of Bands at Southwest State University in Marshall, MN for 17 years. From May 1987 he conducted the Sioux Falls Municipal Band for five summer seasons.

At SDSU he teaches trumpet and horn along with brass pedagogy and instrumental conducting. He directs the CommUniversity Band and assists with The Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band. Dr. Taylor is an active clinician, conductor, adjudicator, and trumpet soloist.
