Application Instructions:

DEADLINE: February 15th

In order to assure yourself a spot on the trip we need you to do four (4) things by the February 15th deadline:

1. Submit a $300 non-refundable deposit. This deposit just assures you a spot on the trip and allows the trip leaders to start making reservations and put forth deposits on hotels, flights, etc. The deposit is non-refundable but will count toward the total price of the trip. The deposit can be submitted to either your trip leader or the main Modern Languages office (SNF 121). Checks may be made out to “SDSU Modern Languages” and then put either “Argentina Study Abroad” or “Guatemala Study Abroad” in the memo line.

2. Register for LAS 491. This is a one-credit orientation course that is required for all those students who participate in our summer study abroad program. This allows us to meet as a group at least once a week for ~1.5 hours to get acquainted with one another, learn about the host country you will be living in and complete pertinent administrative paperwork. There will be no tests in this course and it will be conducted entirely in English. Your responsibilities include: preparing a paper and presentation on a relevant topic about your host country, regular attendance, etc. This one-credit course is not covered in the price of the trip. ARGENTINA: LAS 491, Section 01; GUATEMALA: LAS 491, Section 02

The advantages of taking a course: you get college credit for meetings we would have to have anyway.

How to register: When you come in to pay your deposit our secretary, Cindy Homann, will be able to register you for the course. If you have any special holds on your record the process may be a little different, but our secretary will inform you of any potential difficulty.

 3. Submit a “Trip Application”. Regardless of which study abroad trip you decide to go on this summer, you need to turn in a trip application. See the attached document in order to download this application. Applications can be turned in to the trip leaders. Or if we are out of the office, have our secretary put it in one of our boxes in SNF 121.

4.      4. Fill out a Spring Schedule. (See attached document) The LAS 491 course as of yet does not have a regular meeting time because we need to arrange a time that will be convenient for all so that we can meet as a whole group. So, we are asking that you please fill out and turn in to us your spring schedule on the document we are attaching (to make it easier to look at everyone’s free time). Turn in your schedule to your trip leader.
