Program Information
Undergraduate Work in Journalism.
The department offers bachelor of science and bachelor of arts degrees in the sequences of News-Editorial, Broadcast Journalism and Avertising. It also works with the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences to offer a degree in Agricultural Journalism. Ag Journalism students receive a bachelor of science degree from the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences but are advised by journalism faculty. There are usually about 16 to 20 students in Ag Journalism.
Minor in Journalism.
Available for students majoring in other fields. Courses required are newswriting and reporting, and other journalism courses to toal 16 credits.
Graduate Work in Journalism.
A Master of Science degree is offered. The graduate program is not a professional program — it could better be described as a traditional program. It requires a total of 30 hours of graduate work with 19 to 22 of those hours being in journalism. A six-hour thesis is part of that total. The remaining 8 to 11 hours are in either a minor or supporting area. There are about 10 to 15 students in the master’s program at any given time. There are about three or four graduates each year.
