A comprehensive look at the mass media in the United States and the world and how they work. Includes discussions of newspapers, magazines, radio, television, books, movies, recordings, advertising and public relations. Also studies mass media rights and responsibilities, ethics and censorship. Recommended for journalism majors and minors.

Includes overview of the magazine industry, how to write and submit freelance articles. Students write and submit articles for publication and edit a departmental magazine.

Junior-level required course that emphasizes presentations before cameras and microphones. This includes the fundamentals of voice and articulation for effective on-air performance on both radio and television. This course develops an understanding of international and ethnic advertising and marketing. Students gain experience in marketing decisions that reflect an understanding of intercultural and international markets and explore the social and ethical issues in such marketing.

MCOM 482-582 Travel Studies (1-5 SSu)
This travel study course is designed to provide extra-mural educational experiences, as approved by and under the direction of a faculty member and may be in cooperation with faculty and administrators of other institutions. Students will participate in hands-on activities and design educational activities for presentation at selected locations.
