Roxanne Lucchesi, M.S., coordinates the advertising specialization in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. She teaches a broad range of courses within the advertising curriculum, including advertising principles; advertising media strategies; and sales, promotion and marketing. Every other year she advises the SDSU National Student Advertising Competition team, with teams placing consistently at regional competitions and twice at nationals.
After earning her Masters degree at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, she entered the professional world specializing in media planning. She worked in advertising agencies in St. Louis and Chicago then returned to her native South Dakota to teach.
During her tenure at SDSU, she has focused on branding and advertising strategy research. She has lead several evaluative research efforts for the South Dakota Department of Health during the past several years, evaluating awareness, attitudes and knowledge of the state’s programs and tobacco initiatives. She has published a book chapter and a magazine article on Margaret Hockaday, owner of a New York creative boutique in the 1950s and 60s.
She is a member of the South Dakota Advertising Federation and actively engages students in that organization.
Lucchesi’s husband, Dave, is a fisheries biologist for the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks. The couple has two children, Lydia and Emma. |
