Yeager Hall 224 |  Matthew Cecil, Ph.D. joins the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication faculty after spending five years as a professor in Indiana and Oklahoma. Cecil has seven years of media experience, including five years as a reporter for daily newspapers in Sioux Falls, S.D. and Fargo, N.D. A Brookings native, Cecil earned his bachelor's degree in History from SDSU, a master's degree in history from Minnesota State University, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Iowa. From 2000 to 2002, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Communication at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. Most recently, Cecil was an assistant professor in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma. Cecil's wife, Jennifer Tiernan, also earned her Ph.D. at the University of Iowa, was a professor at Purdue and OU, and teaches as an adjunct at SDSU. The couple have one child, Owen, and four cats, Georgia, Sophie, Jimmy and Walter. |
