Marilyn Hixon Brown, Coordinator of English as a Second Language and the SDSU Writing Center

Ms. Marilyn Brown received her degree in English from Ohio State University and has been teaching English as a Second Language at South Dakota State University continuously since 1979. She became the English as a Second Language Coordinator in 1984 and the Writing Center Coordinator in January, 1998. She is currently teaching two English as a Second Language courses, English 003 and 013, and tutoring in the Writing Center in addition to her work as coordinator. She is a member of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Language, the South Dakota Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Language, the National Writing Center Association, the Midwest Writing Center Association, and the Brookings ESL/Literacy Teachers Association. On campus, she has been an active participant on committees related to English as a Second Language, internationalization, and diversity. Currently, she is a member of the Committee for the Internationalization of Education and the founder and coordinator of Conversation Partners and the International Conversation and Coffee Hour.
