Professional Semester I (PS I)

_____ EDFN 338 Foundation of American Education  (2 cr)
_____ EDFN 475 Human Relations (3 cr)

 

Requirements: In order to register for the two courses in PS I, students must have at least sophomore status by the time they finish the semester in which they take PS I.

 

Professional Semester II (PS II)

_____ EPSY 302 Educational Psychology (3 cr)
_____ SEED 450 7-12 Teaching Reading in the Content Area (2 cr)
_____ SEED 314 Supervised Clinical Experience (1 cr)

 

Requirements: Students in PS II are considered members of the Teacher Education Program. In order to be admitted they must have at least junior status (completed at least 64 hours), complete PS I with grades of at least C and be recommended by their PS I instructors, hold an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, and complete English, Mathematics, and Speech requirements with a grade of C or better.

Professional Semester III (PS III)

            Secondary Schools (4 cr)
_____ SEED 410  Social Foundations, Management, and Law (2  cr)
_____ SEED 488  7-12 Student Teaching (1-8 cr)
_____ EDFN 499 Professional Issues in Education (elective, 1 cr)

 

Requirements: To be admitted into PS III, students must have attained senior standing, successfully completed all prerequisite coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall and a minimum GPA of 2.6 in their major and education courses, be recommended by both their major advisor and the special methods instructor, and meet with the Placement Supervisor prior to October 1 (for teaching in the following Spring Semester) or February 1 (for student teaching in the following Fall Semester).

 

Note: Students interested in seeking certification for coaching should consult with the Coaching Certification Coordinator in the Department of HPER to verify the specific requirements of each state in which they are interested.

Other Requirements

 

Modern Language: Students must complete the second semester of the second year of a modern foreign language. A student taking a language that he or she has previously studied must take a placement test prior to enrolling in that language. Successfully passing the course into which one has been placed enables the student to purchase the credits for the courses below that course for a small fee.

History Sequence: One of these history sequences is required by the English Department: either HIST 111 & 112 OR HIST 121 & 122.. These courses also count toward the GEN ED requirements.

Note: The BA requires 33 hours of 300- or 400-level courses.  These do not all have to be in one’s major. For transfer courses, it is the original number that counts, and not the SDSU equivalency.
