* A minimum grade of C must be earned in all English or Linguistics courses that are counted in the major or minor.

** When approved by the department

*** Only Honors sections of English 210 count toward the English major.

Note: As with any B.A., the English Major requires the completion of the second year of a foreign language. A student taking a language that he or she has previously studied must take a placement test prior to enrolling in that language. Successfully passing the course into which one has been placed enables the student to purchase the credits for the courses below that course for a small fee.

Note: The English Department requires one of these history sequences: either HIST 111 ___ & 112 ___  OR HIST 121  ___ & 122 ___. These courses also count toward the GEN ED requirements.

Note: The BA requires 33 hours of 300- or 400-level courses.  These do not all have to be in one’s major. For transfer courses, it is the original number that counts, and not the SDSU equivalency.

Note: The English Minor is 20 credits beyond 101 and 201. It must include one of the following: Engl 379, Engl 383, Ling 203, Ling 420, Ling 443, or Long 452. It must include 9 hours of English literature and 6 hours of American literature.
