McCrory Garden Party. 5 p.m. until dusk, Friday, Aug. 17, 2007
Info: David Graper, director of McCrory Gardens, 688-6253(office) / 688-5921(McCrory Gardens); Martin Maca, associate director, 688-5137(office)

McCrory Gardens harbors a wide variety of flowers, trees, shrubs and grasses. The gardens comprise about 20 acres of floral botanical gardens and 45 acres of arboretum (a place for the scientific study and public exhibition of many species of trees and shrubs).

“The garden party is one of our best times of the year, as far as color in the garden,” Graper said. “It’s about their [annuals] peak time of year typically. For those who want to see some of the latest and newest plant materials, this is the place to come. It’s nice to stroll through a garden on a summer afternoon, meet with friends and family, have some ice cream and enjoy the band. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing evening away from the usual day-to-day kind of stuff.”
(open to the public)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
South Dakota State University's McCrory Gardens are open from dawn to dusk; all visitors are welcome and we charge no fees.
Look, sniff and touch as much as you wish, but please do not pick the flowers, dig the plants, or take cuttings from any plants. Your fingers may itch to trim off spent flowers, but please restrain yourself. You will find small discreet tags identifying most of the plants. If you have questions, feel free to contact us.
Again welcome to the Gardens. We hope your visit gives you as much pleasure as maintaining the Gardens gives us.
McCrory Gardens is located on the corner of 6th Street and 22nd Avenue in Brookings, SD (a few blocks west of I29). The Gardens contain approximately 20 acres of formal display gardens and about 45 acres of arboretum.
